Welcome to Washington DC where you can either burn up in the outside temperature of 95 degrees or freeze in the air conditioned exhibit hall.

I am participating in The World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing with the Delft University of Technology - BE-Basic and Kluyver Center, Science Port Holland and DSM who are here representing the Industrial Biotech Netherlands. The Netherlands and particularly Delft is being profiled for its strengths in Industrial Biotech which include fermentation technologies, and the new bioprocess pilot facility in the works and a new innovative science park. The World Congress is the world's largest industrial biotechnology event for business leaders, investors and policy makers in biofuels, biobased products, and renewable chemicals. The event brings together more than 1,400 high-profile scientists, executives, government officials and investors for an exchange of ideas in Washington, D.C. Networks between Dutch and International representatives from Goverment, Industry and Academia were strengthen and new contacts made yesterday evening during the networking dinner organized by The WFIA, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency and the Netherlands Office of Science and Technology in Washington DC. I have made some good contacts at the show and had some very promising meetings with interested companies. In addition to appointments at the show, I am having meetings outside the show with companies and organizations that are considering opening offices in the Netherlands.

Today (wednesday), Industrial Biotechnology Netherlands is sponsoring the plenary lunch and will also be profiling the Netherlands with a small presentation and movie. All efforts have been made to put The Netherlands in the spotlight as good investment location with innovative technology that will further the goal of bringing about a bio based economy.
