Leiden Bio Science Park is the leading life sciences cluster in the Netherlands and ranks among the top five most successful science parks in Europe.
It is fully dedicated to biomedical life sciences and offers opportunities for both start-ups as well as established companies.
The combination of a high concentration of companies, top ranked university, academic hospital and education facilities attracts companies from within The Netherlands and abroad.
Yesterday (March 17) I had a fact finding visit of a US company, for a tour on the park and a visit to some companies located at the park. The aim was to identify the possibilities for this company at the park.
Companies are attracted to the LBSP due to the closeness of other LS companies, which allows for easy cooperation. In this way you do not have to invest in all the necessary and often expensive lab facilities. In addition there are always possible clients at the park and R&D contacts with the university and hospital.
Also the proximity of the international airport of Schiphol and the existence of several international schools nearby do count. Needless to say Leiden is a beautiful place to live. With the US representative and Annelieke Hoenderkamp of Leiden Bio Science Park we are standing in front of one of the companies we paid a visit.
Tax is an important issue for foreign companies. Mainly in case they have offices in other EU countries which are generating dividends for the mother company in the home country or are participating in EU companies.
As this was also the case this time, we visited an international tax lawyer to discuss the optimal tax structure.
