From now on Rotterdam airport is officially called Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Yesterday an official ceremony took place where both mayor Aboutaleb of Rotterdam and mayor Van Aartsen of The Hague signed an agreement about the new name. The history dates back to 1921 when the city of The Hague proposed to Rotterdam to build a new airport together. Almost 90 years later Rotterdam The Hague Airport has been realised. Yesterday's ceremony started with speeches by mayors Aboutaleb and Van Aartsen speaking about the international potential and cooperation of both cities. After the official papers were signed, we went outside in the snow to witness vice-mayor of The Hague Frits Huffnagel and vice-mayor of Rotterdam Lucas Bolsius reveal the new name of Rotterdam The Hague Airport on top of the building. Next to that a Transavia 737 was named after the new airport. With this new name Rotterdam The Hague Airport will contribute to the international character of the region and will strenghten the Rotterdam The Hague metropolitan area.
